Queen City Commons App

I collaborated with a team of four to propose an app design for Queen City Commons Composting to help them grow their audience.

Research

How might we visualize community among Cincinnati young adults and families to foster connection and make composting exciting through an immersive and interactive social app?

  • Target Audience

This app is for people who are already connected with Queen City Commons. We chose this audience to focus on because we wanted to guide people on how to start composting, where to compost, and why you should compost. Our target audience are people in the Cincinnati area to help connect communities together.

  • Personas

We developed two personas to better understand our audience’s goals and needs, and ensure that our app would meet them.

Goal

After conducting research, we decided to design the app for people who want to buy or already have a Queen City Commons membership. Access to the app could encourage more people to become members, and consequently encourage them to compost.

Our app design shows users that their composting efforts truly make a difference and connects Cincinnati neighborhood composters.

Design

  • Task Flow

We came up with several of these potential paths that a user could take to determine the most successful and intuitive organization.

  • Digital Wireframes

We went through a few rounds of developing wireframes like these to consider different page layouts and action sequences.

  • User Walkthrough Testing

We asked peers to place the wireframes in the order that they thought made the most sense. This allowed us to compare our task flow to how real users would navigate the app, and make adjustments where they did not align to ensure smooth navigation.

Design

  • Sketches

  • Moodboard

  • Style Guide

Since our app is designed for those paying for a Queen City Commons membership, we emulated the visual language of the existing website for unity across platforms.
